A compact, single-level secondary dwelling makes considered use of an underused yard in Lower Shotover, Queenstown.
Prior House explores how a smaller, carefully considered home can make better use of existing land. An unused yard in Lower Shotover offered space for independent accommodation, with an investment brief guiding the design.
Modal Architecture reassessed an earlier two-bedroom mezzanine proposal and developed a single-level, one-bedroom layout. Reducing the scope simplified the building while retaining its purpose. Architectural cues from the existing house help the new dwelling belong within the property.
Consultant, quantity surveyor, builder and consent information were coordinated through a change of ownership, maintaining continuity as the proposal evolved.
Read the Prior House case study and explore our infill homes and secondary dwelling design. Our design process explains how ideas become coordinated project information.
