Lin House by Daniel Marshall Architects video
Lin House by Daniel Marshall Architects
A relatively narrow north-facing site meant the pool and main living areas needed to occupy the front yard, while a driveway leads to the garage located in the middle of the house.
The first-floor balcony is edged with a unique bamboo-patterned concrete wall.
Curved insitu concrete walls either side of the garage provide ample turning space.
A bamboo hedge and maple trees line the small courtyard leading into the dining area.
The upper storey cantilevers over the pool area, providing shade to the front courtyard.
Huge sliding doors open up the lounge to the courtyard, effectively doubling the living space.
The lounge is a cleverly curated modernist composition of fireplace, large-scale television, sofas and coffee table.
A black piano takes centrestage against a polished concrete wall while the beautiful veining in the marble kitchen island competes with the bamboo shadows on the floor.
A classic Kiwi galley-style kitchen was designed for Asian cooking with a full chef's set-up in the discreet scullery in behind.
Sliding doors open up to reveal a full bar set-upm, while the front door features a metal bamboo handle, complementing the bamboo-shuttered in-situ concrete wall.
The dining area utilises a harmonious monochromatic materials palette, overlooking the bamboo hedging and small courtyard.
Grey concrete walls and tiled stone flooring creates a serene textural corridor space.
The media room at the rear of the house opens into a rear courtyard.
A maple tree in the adjacent bathroom forms a  sculptural form lit up at night.
A private retreat, the guest bedroom is nestled into the back of the house.
The ensuite bathroom maximises the internal curves formed by the curved garage walls.
The stairwell leading upstairs from the front entrance.
American oak lines the stairwell, adding a warm contrast to the concrete details.
Upstairs, a pink circle sofa provides a dramatic centrepiece in the study area.
The study features built-in oak cabinetry with hidden drawers in the benchtop.
The view from the master bedroom of the study (left) and the balcony (right) with its bamboo-shuttered in-situ concrete wall that runs up from the entrance.
The bamboo concrete feature wall is the first of its kind to be constructed in New Zealand.
The concept of the bamboo wall reflects the owners' Asian heritage.
White and black marble is carried through into the elegant ensuite bathroom, seen on walls and flooring.
A curvaceous bath echoes the curved walls seen in some of the smaller rooms.
The upper-level study and master bedroom enjoys views of neighbouring treetops.
