Set to open mid-2026, the new studio marks a considered expansion for the practice, which already operates across Auckland and Brisbane. Known for its work across hotel, hospitality and mixed-use environments, CTRL Space’s move south reflects both the scale of current investment in Queenstown and the increasing complexity of projects shaping the region’s built environment.

Fuelled by sustained visitor demand and a robust pipeline of hotel developments, Queenstown has become a focal point for operators and investors alike. For CTRL Space, the decision to embed locally is less about growth for growth’s sake, and more about proximity. Enabling earlier engagement in projects, closer collaboration with developers, and a more responsive approach from masterplanning through to delivery.

Founder Chris Stevens points to a broader shift in the sector, where design is no longer viewed as a surface layer but as a critical driver of both guest experience and commercial performance. As projects increase in scale and ambition, so too does the expectation for spaces that not only stand out, but function seamlessly over time.

The Queenstown studio signals the next chapter in CTRL Space’s trans-Tasman growth. Strengthening its ability to support clients across high-growth tourism markets, while contributing to the evolving design language of the South Island’s most dynamic destination.
