Ducted gas heating is one of the most popular home heating solutions due to its ability to reach and retain ambient temperatures at speed, and at minimal running costs. We spoke to Rinnai about why ducted gas continues to soar in popularity in high-end homes.
Like Rinnai Infinity hot water systems, ducted gas heating operates efficiently and endlessly, allowing for almost instant heat whenever it is required. It’s the speed of this heating system that allows it to respond quickly to our changeable climate.
“The real beauty of ducted gas heating is the ability to use the home year round in the way that you would in summer, without worrying about cold spots anywhere in the house. With ducted gas heating you can expect to have an ambient temperature throughout the year,” Rinnai’s Sarah Moore says. “Ducted gas is able to achieve this because it works differently to other central heating such as radiator systems or ducted heat pump systems. These types of systems heat the highest point first whereas Rinnai Brivis ducted gas heating heats every area of each room quickly and retains that temperature with high operating efficiency,” Sarah says.
"Rinnai Brivis ducted gas heating is designed for speed. What this means is that you don’t have to heat the house the whole time, just when you want to use it. Its comparable to Rinnai Infinity hot water heaters. The reason people want a Rinnai Infinity system is because they can have access to as much hot water as they want, whenever they want it without having to pay to keep it warm.”
“Gas ducted heating is the comparable form of central heating. Within five to ten minutes of turning it on, you will feel the heat throughout the home. A Rinnai Brivis system allows you to heat the home only when it is required rather than keeping the system running constantly. This keeps running costs down.”While many other central heating systems are recommended to be run consistently throughout the day and night to keep running costs down, the opposite is true with ducted gas central heating. “In general, a Rinnai Brivis system needs to only be run for a few hours a day for maximum effectiveness. For example, for a couple of hours in the morning and a few in the evening,” Sarah says.
For homeowner Margo Stewart whose two-storey character home in Remuera, Auckland, was recently renovated and had a Rinnai Brivis ducted gas central heating system installed, the results have been instant.
“It has been the most effective heating system we’ve ever used. Before we renovated, as soon as you opened a door the heat would leave the house. This system in contrast is so effective we hardly need to use it at all because the heat just stays. It has been the most cost effective way of heating our home, and when you turn it on, the heat is almost instant,” Margo says. “When we use it, we have it on in all the main areas of the downstairs level, and we don’t need to turn it on upstairs because the whole house is heated almost instantly.”
“I’m thrilled with it. We chose vent covers that would blend into the floors and carpet. I could have chosen more ornate coverings but these blend seamlessly into the decor. Rinnai chose all the placements so they are subtly placed but very effective. When you walk into our home there is a large entrance hallway, and the moment you step into that area the house feels lovely and warm.”
Rinnai Brivis ducted gas heating is available exclusively in New Zealand from Rinnai, and is available in various forms depending on the desired efficiency of the gas furnace installed - either three, four, five or six star-rated options are available.
