Sky-high timber cladding

Timber cladding products are de rigueur in architecturally-designed residential builds – but until now it’s been difficult to achieve the same look on a commercial or high-rise project – not least because anything remotely difficult to access is impossible to maintain.

This is no longer the case, as PSP have a brand new product called EuroClad that caters to high-rise and commercial applications. It’s a composite timber-look cladding made from 80 per cent wood fibres and 20 per cent resin and it’s unique in that it is virtually maintenance free and has a 15 year warranty.

EuroClad achieved CodeMark Certification which is required for cladding products used in commercial and residential buildings. 

“It’s the only composite cladding with a CodeMark E2/VM1 & AS/NZS4284 Certification,” says PSP’s Vaughan Brown.

For this reason, it has a wide range of applications in addition to its suitability for use in hard-to-reach areas such as high-rise apartment blocks where you might need scaffolding to clean a timber cladding product.

Recently EuroClad was used at Whangarei High School due to its CodeMark status and the fact it is practically a maintenance-free cladding option. “This was a very important factor given they did not want to invest in extra costs in re-coating and had peace of mind that it comes with a 15 year warranty,” says Vaughan.

A dark cedar colour was chosen for use in the school’s soffits, giving it a striking a wood-grain look in an area that would otherwise be difficult to maintain.

EuroClad is manufactured in Germany and comes in six colours: Dark Cedar, Cedar, Silver Oak, Coastal White, African Ebony and White Oak.

“It’s easy to install and it won’t rot,” says Vaughan. “The tongue and groove design makes for a seamless look because the fixings are concealed.”

EuroClad can also be used for soffits, garage doors, feature walls or signage – basically anywhere where minimal maintenance is required.

Vaughan says it’s also used in conjunction with cedar on some architecturally-designed projects: cedar is used where access for maintenance is easy, while EuroClad is used in all hard-to-reach spots.

The product also has the added benefit of being able to be installed vertically and horizontally, making it suitable for almost any application.
