For one Auckland-based firm, building an enduring business comes from having extensive product knowledge, expertise across all markets and a passion for delivering the right solution the first time.

Being successful in business comes down to offering a product or service that people need or want coupled with providing excellent customer service backed up by knowledge and expertise.

Sounds simple but the reality is that a successful business—and one that endures—doesn’t just happen; it is the combination of those traits and the passion the people working in the business have for what they do.

For local business, Haynes Glass, being able to call on all of those attributes has seen the company go from strength to strength in the nearly three decades since it was established, says General Manager, Matthew Hayne.

“My father started the company 28 years ago with a mission to be the ‘go-to, can-do’ Kiwi glass business and I’m proud to say that we have never lost sight of that goal or expectation.

“Since then, we have taken on new product lines and have innovated and diversified, adding larger-scale commercial and retail projects to our mix, working closely with architects, builders, home owners, renovators and commercial fit-out companies.

“We have highly trained staff—some of the best in the industry—and an engaged management team, with project management experience, focused on delivering the best outcome for our customers.”

For Australian fashion brand Kookai's new flagship store in Auckland's Commercial Bay development, Haynes Glass specified and installed low-iron glass for the clearest visibility and true-colour representation.

Haynes Glass: a proven track record

Matthew says the company has really honed in on the customer experience investing a lot of time and energy into ensuring the team is continually upskilling and improving.

“One of the biggest benefits we can offer clients is the huge depth of quality we have in-house in training and installation. Whether its architecturally designed retail fitouts or large-scale residential—apartments as well as single residences—and commercial projects, our team can deliver.

“With expertise that only comes from years of experience, we can offer advice on the best materials for aesthetics and performance for high-end commercial and retail projects to residential builds.

“We recently completed a fit-out project for Australian women’s clothing brand Kookai in the $1bn Commerical Bay complex. As a high-value brand, Kookai was looking for a glazing solution that offered the best visibility and truest colour representation for their products. Thanks to our comprehensive product knowledge, we were able to specify a low-iron glass solution that really allows the clothes to make a statement in the window.”

Knowledge built up over years of experience is a valuable asset, not just to the end user but to all facets of the construction chain, which is why the Haynes Glass team likes to be involved from the early planning stages, offering advice on glass specification, engineering processes and solutions fit for each project.

“Product knowledge is only part of the picture. The Haynes Glass team prides itself on being able to offer efficient turnaround and exacting service, which comes from experience in working in high-pressure environments; working within tight time frames to ensure the finish matches the specifications and the customers’ expectations, with proven experience on high-profile projects such as those within Commercial Bay and another of Auckland’s premier shopping destinations, Westfield Newmarket.”

Create a bathroom as individual as you are with elements including custom shower screens, Eclipse LED mirrors and quality hardware designed to match your bathroom fixtures and fittings.

Haynes Glass: home is where the heart is

That knowledge also crosses the boundary into the residential market, where Haynes Glass services the greater Auckland region from Pukekohe in the south to Albany in the north and even going further afield to Hamilton and Warkworth.

“Since COVID-19, we’ve seen the residential market really start growing as more people look to invest in their homes. For us, it’s important to be able to offer homeowners a one-stop-shop solution for kitchens, bathrooms, pool areas, stairways and balconies—not just in terms of glass and glazing but also hardware options, decorative options and balustrades and pool fencing.

“A large part of that hinges on being able to read upcoming trends, particularly in bathroom design, and be at the forefront of those trends. We have conducted a lot of research into sourcing the right products for our clients—ensuring quality backed by a reliable supply source—and have selected a range of quality hardware to match on-trend finishes such as nickel, gunmetal and brushed brass to meet the clients’ vision, particularly with shower solutions.

“Another aspect of the Haynes Glass experience is our focus on quality control. We would rather invest in technology and training to ensure our products and service are second-to-none rather than offer an off-the-shelf, one-size-definitely-does-not-fit-all solution.

“That’s why services such as back-painting and graphic printing of glass for applications such as splashbacks, are carried out in-house. Similarly, we have developed a custom channel system for the installation of frameless showers, which ensures no unsightly mould build up, meaning less ongoing maintenance for homeowners with a sleek and minimalistic look.

“Also, our Eclipse custom LED mirrors are made to order. We cut the glass and install the LEDs to your specifications, however Eclipse mirrors do require pre-wiring setup by an electrician.

“We’re passionate about what we do so we take the time to listen to the market, to research trends and to use products that enhance peoples’ lifestyle—it’s about caring enough to ensure the job is done properly the first time.”
