Verandah House is a masterful realization of the "man’s home is his castle" adage, situated on an elevated corner site in Singapore. Designed by RT+Q Architects, the residence epitomizes the Frank Lloyd Wright principle of refuge and prospect. It is strategically positioned to remain impregnable to outside observation while offering the occupants panoramic, unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. The architectural narrative rejects the traditional front door, opting instead for a dramatic arrival sequence that leads guests through a basement vestibule and up into a world of light and greenery.

The design is defined by its transparency and lightness, featuring glass-enclosed volumes and timber screens that provide both texture and solar protection. Central to the home’s social life is the expansive verandah and infinity pool, which serve as the primary "front" of the house. By integrating wide eaves and natural ventilation, Verandah House offers a sustainable sanctuary that fosters a deep reconnection with nature and family, far removed from the bustling world outside.

Key Design Features:

Refuge and Prospect: A strategic architectural layout that ensures total privacy from the street while capturing expansive, panoramic views.

Choreographed Arrival: A unique entry sequence that begins at a basement car park and transitions into a lush, light-filled garden environment.

Sculptural Materiality: The use of timber screen boxes and broad eaves to provide functional shading and a rich, tactile aesthetic.

Elevated Sanctuary: The main living spaces and pool are perched high above the road, creating a serene, "citadel-like" atmosphere for the family.
