Take a look around some of the more innovative bathrooms on the market today, and you’re likely to observe products with slim, understated, minimal lines – designs where the details are simple, yet sophisticated, and highly functional.

Plumbline, New Zealand’s largest manufacturer of bathroomware, is forging ahead of the crowd with its new vanity top and basin collection, Progetto Solid Surface.

Director Brad Wallace says his company’s latest offering is the epitome of this trend. “We have developed a range of solid surface basins and vanity tops, made from a composite material that’s engineered from natural minerals and resin, and featuring a smooth, contemporary-looking matt finish with no visible joins,” he says.

“This product is one of the most exciting materials available for bathrooms today.  As well as being highly practical – durable, versatile and resistant to stains – it is following the Iatest European trends for a soft-touch surface in a matt white colour, complete with a warm feel.”

And because of the unique technique used to fabricate the material, basins and vanities can be customised with absolute precision for individual projects, making it ideal for both commercial applications and residential uses. Brad says the material is suitable for commercial washrooms or for bathrooms in private homes that require a vanity in a particular shape or a non-standard size.

Progetto vanity tops can be wall or cabinet mounted and custom-made to any reasonable length, and below-basin drawers or shelves can easily be moulded into them.

Another great advantage of Plumbline’s new collection is that there is no minimum order quantity for the made-to-order service. All that customers, or their architects, have to do is provide Plumbline’s design specialist, Justin Wallace, with the measurements and he then works with them to create a design that will fit exactly into the bathroom in their home or commercial project. “We then provide customised 3-D renders and drawings before going ahead so you can see precisely what the vanity will look like when it is completed,” says Brad.

As well as the made-to-order service, Plumbline has a variety of ready-made designs and styles on display in its showrooms in Auckland and Wellington. There’s the Waterplane, a simple, yet spectacular, vanity top that’s fabricated from a series of flat, solid surface panels. In this design, a cleverly concealed waste slot allows a continuous flow of water to drain away.

For a sleek contemporary style, the 50mm, radius-corner design of the Cirque aligns with current trends for soft, square lines. This vanity top, with its built-in towel rail and mirror with matching radiused corners, perfectly demonstrates the flexibility of Progetto. “With our solid surface material, we have been able to create a whole lot of new design and functionality options,” says Brad.
