A well-known Kiwi brand in Australia for over 20 years, Halliday + Baillie started manufacturing its Recessed Blind Box Extrusion System in Australia last year. Now, they are further expanding production here with its range of popular drawer extrusions.
“Halliday + Baillie is an architectural fittings company, predominantly door hardware, but we do some unusual things where we've found little pockets of the market that we thought we needed to improve on, and with the help of one of our New Zealand architects, we designed with him a blind box,” says Halliday + Baillie director Tanya Rive. “We also do some ventilation grills for extraction in bathrooms, laundries and beyond, and it’s completely flush into the ceiling, so that’s outside of door hardware, but it is a fitting that is really important when you’re designing a beautiful building.”
The Single Recessed Blind Extrusion
With Halliday + Baillie branches in Sydney for over 20 years and now in Melbourne, it made sense to also expand manufacturing into Australia. Last year, this started with the Recessed Blind box extrusion system being the first to be manufactured on Australian shores.
A sleek blind system for flush mounting to ceiling plasterboard, primarily for automated roller blinds and screens, the Single Recessed Blind Extrusion helps bring a next level of sophistication to interior projects.
“This is a game changer for builders looking to recess blinds into the ceiling – it’s a great time and labour-saving device,” says Rive.
Halliday + Baillie’s continuous drawer pull series for cabinets
The second range of Halliday + Baillie products to be manufactured in Australia includes the manufacturer's already popular 3m-long drawer extrusions for 18mm cabinetry for both kitchens and soon-to-launch vertical joinery. Used full-width or cut to smaller lengths, this range offers an alternative to traditional cabinet handles on drawers, cupboards and doors.
Ideal as a slimline drawer or joinery door pull in kitchens, bathrooms and more, the Halliday + Baillie extrusion series comes in a range of six styles, including:

“They are sold in a raw finish and they are in three-meter lengths. The three-meter length allows you to cut it down to the kitchen joinery, or drawers that you're actually putting into your kitchen,” says Rive.
“The fact that it’s sold in the raw finish allows you to be creative. You can anodise it, you can powder coat it. You can have so much fun with this product. There are so many different designs.”
Benefits of manufacturing in Australia
Halliday + Baillie has been proudly designing and manufacturing from this side of the world for over 24 years, and with manufacturing now also underway in Australia, there are some new benefits:
- To freight these from New Zealand to Australia was not in line with Halliday + Baillie’s sustainability commitment and keeping its carbon footprint as low as possible.
- Not only does manufacturing in Australia reduce carbon footprint, but it also gives business to another Australian firm that employs Australians – something that means a lot to H+B.
- Long-length products are expensive to import and take up valuable space, so not having to allow for any of that in the cost of the product means pricing is better.
- Both products are produced and delivered raw so clients can then have them finished to their specifications.
“Manufacturing locally more generally means we have more control over quality and smaller production runs allow us to continually improve designs, and provide flexibility with finishes. We’re immensely proud to bring manufacturing to the side of the world because I do believe it employs people – it’s really important,” says Rive. “I think more and more manufacturing is leaving our shores, and I think we need to bring some back in. And we’re one of those companies that are doing it.”
H+B also proudly supports the local Australian design industry with sponsorship of the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) and The Design Coach (TDC) which hosts the TDC Scholarship Program, facilitating the personal and professional development of a member of the design community who shows the right aptitude, attitude and commitment.
