Luxe minimalism: the latest trend in bathroom tapware

Minimalism is nothing new as a trend - the word ‘minimalism’ has been in use since the 1960s. But it’s fair to say that combined with modern technology, contemporary minimalist bathroom tapware designs have really enabled the ‘streamlined’ aesthetic to be taken to the next level.

Combined with this, our houses are on a serious trajectory to becoming much smaller and more compact, which supports the use of elegant and simple designs, so as not to visually clutter the space.

Voda Plumbingware’s Jon Doherty has been in the industry for over 30 years, and says minimalism has been making a serious comeback in the last few years.

“In many locations and especially in our larger cities, we've got smaller terrace houses and apartments being built, where bathrooms are smaller and in a lot of cases people don't want their taps to overpower the bathroom. I think this is where minimalist-type tapware fits into that space really well.”

Similar to getting vanities off of the floor, to make bathrooms feel spacious, the trend for moving the tap off the vanity and plumbing it into the wall above the basin is becoming more and more common.

“In our Storm range, which is minimalist in form, we have a wall basin set so you can get the tap completely off the vanity and on the wall - again, you're creating more space and giving that feeling that the vanity is bigger.”

Creating a feeling of spaciousness, as well as using tapware that espouses an elegant and well-considered aesthetic is one of the easiest ways to get the luxury look at home. Here are three more bathroom trends showcasing how you can use tapware to bring luxe minimalism to your space.

The latest in shower functionality

The experience of showering is no longer just to keep clean, but can be used for more luxurious purposes. The latest showerhead in Voda Plumbingware’s Storm range, the Storm 3 Function Slide Shower has a normal shower function as well as two other settings including a deep tissue massage function.

“If you're a sports person or you have aches and pains then you’ll want to consider a multi-functional shower head that can deliver that massage experience,” says Doherty.

But this experience doesn’t come at the cost of looks, as it features a distinct minimalist aesthetic.

“The three-function button is hidden at the back of the handset, so you don't see it; it's very discreet, so if you want to change it, you can just put your finger in behind the showerhead and change the function to a softer or harder feel, or a massage feel.”

The Storm 3 Function Slide Shower is available in a range of on-trend colours in four stunning PVD finishes; Brushed Brass, Brushed Copper, Brushed Gunmetal, and Brushed Nickel, as well as a classic Chrome finish, so you can match it easily to your personal design aesthetic.

The latest in luxury: double-head

For the ultimate spa experience at home, you shouldn’t have to pick between a drencher and a slide shower. Thankfully Voda Plumbingware now offers the Storm Double Head Shower and it’s available in a wide variety of colours and finishes to complement your bathroom.

It has the same triple functioning hand piece as the 3 Function Slide Shower, and unlike many other double-head models, both showerheads (drencher and handset) can operate simultaneously.

“You can have both showerheads running at the same time if you put the diverter switch halfway,” says Doherty. “The other nice thing about the double-head shower is there isn't a wall elbow, so the water comes in through the diverter mechanism and runs through the rail, which makes it a much cleaner installation than some of the older traditional double-head showers.”

The design itself is as sleek and as minimalist as the rest of the Storm range, says Doherty, but gives you the ultimate shower experience.

“The drencher combined with your three-function handset gives you the Rolls Royce of shower experiences and it’s perfect if you like to have all the options available in your shower environment.”

The latest in colour

In line with the latest market trends, Voda Plumbingware is offering on-trend colours using PVD coating technologies, which ensure the surface doesn’t tarnish.

“When we launched our Storm range, it was available in Chrome finish and three stunning PVD finishes: Brushed Copper, Brushed Gunmetal; Brushed Nickel, but the market wanted more and we now have our Brushed Brass PVD option, allowing flexibility to suit all styles.”

The quality of the finishes and components means Voda Plumbingware offers a 10-year warranty, and the timelessness of the design gives it the longevity to last the distance.

The other special thing about this range, is many of the components are made from 304 Stainless Steel so are lead-free, which ensures no lead is present in the water. Most of the Storm range is suitable for all water pressures so you can have the luxury, minimalist experience at home, regardless of whether you’re on a mains or low-pressure system.
