As the frosty season settles in, so do our desires to enjoy the outdoors. But while rugging up inside with a cup of hot chocolate is undoubtedly appealing, there's something special about gathering around an outdoor heater in the dead of the night while gazing up at the starry sky.
Melbourne-based retailer Heat & Grill makes this a reality with their RB73 outdoor heaters. They're the perfect addition to every outdoor living space, incorporating classic design aesthetics with innovative functionality.
Dale Mooney from Heat & Grill says the RB73 heaters are "timeless in both design and construction".
"We don't see these as a design trend but rather something that will look just as beautiful in 10 years," he explains. "Being a handmade product means that no two units will ever have the same finish – [so] each unit is unique in itself but made with care and passion."
With seven different designs available, there is one suited for every kind of outdoor space. For example, the RB73 Quercus is ideal for cosy outdoor dining spaces, featuring a pizza stone oven to cook homemade pizza and bread. Meanwhile, the RB73 Quaruba XXL is 105cm tall, making it well suited for spacious outdoor terraces that could benefit from more potent heat.
Being a handmade product means that no two units will ever have the same finish – [so] each unit is unique in itself but made with care and passion.
If the smoke from the fire is a concern, the RB73 heaters have addressed this with their thoughtful design. Each heater features a flue that works like a chimney, removing the smoke from the outdoor space. The durable glass front doors ensure smoke, ash or sparks do not spread towards you.
For extra style, models like the RB73 Fennek 80 and RB73 Quaruba L have additional glass panels that provide a view of the fire from every side.
"Once you build your fire and the steel and the glass begins to warm, the heat radiates off it, providing a nice warmth and ambience to sit around," says Dale.
Maintenance is effortless – clean the inside by giving it an occasional wipe-down. It's always handy to store fresh firewood and have it readily available for every use, too. There is no need to worry about material maintenance, as every RB73 outdoor heater is handmade in Holland with CorTen steel.
Renowned for its corrosion resistance and tensile strength (hence the name), the material was developed by US Steel to create weatherproof steel. Made with iron, copper, silicon, nickel and chromium, CorTen can withstand rain, hail and shine all year round. It's also what gives the RB73 a unique warm rust colour.
Dale advises homeowners to do their research before purchasing.
"No matter what type of outdoor heating you are looking at, whether it be wood, gas or electric – do your research. There are many different options that can be overwhelming, but make sure you choose something right for your space; not all outdoor heating is made equal."
