Marlborough Vintners Winery reflects the craft of wine-making through an industrial and organic design, weaving in the language of its site in New Zealand's largest wine region.
A two-storey, rectangular form meets a long, monopitched roof and an industrial chimney. A meandering path winds up towards curved Cor-Ten steel walls, referencing the braided patterns of the land whilst revealing different perspectives of the surrounding vineyards.
To the north, the main cellar door and dining area are lit by all-day sunlight.
The commercial kitchen is on display, framed by Himalayan cedar panelling felled on the client's farm.
The lab lies on the ground floor.
A central stair features wire mesh and Porter's Paints Liquid Iron and Instant Rust paint to reflect an industrial aesthetic.
A sizeable mezzanine dining space enjoys panoramic views across the valley and into the bar below.
Upstairs, an open-plan office space includes a boardroom.
The cellar door extends onto an expansive deck, using locally sourced timber decking from the client's farm.
