For Stephan Marshall and the team at In Residence, participating with people dedicated to original design and premium quality manufacture is everything – it comes well above profit margins and revenue. It’s this focus that has shaped In Residence and enabled them to work alongside small design teams and small scale manufacturers to develop unique world-first products.

“These smaller designers and manufacturers make products because they love all aspects of design and they find immense satisfaction in the end result,” In Residence’s Stephan Marshall says. “We will not work with anyone who doesn’t manufacture their own products. The companies we work with share our dedication and appreciation of style and quality and this is clearly evident in the products they create.”

Working with family owned and run businesses means all In Residence’s products are their own original and timeless designs. Currently, they work with eight luxury brands, seven of which are English, and one from Italy.

In Residence has been operating in its current form since 1995 and over that time has become known for its high-end range of predominantly English kitchen and bathroom tapware, bathroomware and accessories.

“What we’re finding is that we are often approached by designers and architects who are after a timeless classical style for their project. We often ask designers if there is anything they are looking for that they can’t find and as a result of doing this over the years, we have progressively sourced these missing products and brought them to the market. If they don’t exist, we have created them.”

Of late, that’s meant the release of a single lever shower mixer with a pressure balance valve developed in conjunction with Perrin and Rowe, a single lever Art Deco basin tap, custom sized tubular vanity stands and hinged bathroom mirrors for vanity  cabinets.

In Residence has a far-reaching range but they also offer customised and bespoke products. “Because we have such a good relationship with our suppliers, we are able to work with them to create products specifically for an individual project,” Stephan says.

“Bathrooms are confined spaces and a standard fitting will not always provide optimal scale. A slightly larger or smaller fitting can make all the difference to the completed project.”

In this way, In Residence aims to offer clients and designers the ability to create a complete kitchen or bathroom with their products.

The products In Residence stocks are largely complementary, meaning that each fitting can be provided in a matching finish to create a flawless final design. “This is an important part of what we strive to do. We want people to be able to come to us and know that we can supply everything needed to create the look they want. We always ensure we bring in products that work with the ranges from our other brands.”
