In this series, we share the style cues homeowners can take from some of Australia’s most beautiful shops, hotels, bars and restaurants. Get ready to be inspired!

Designed to resemble the environment in which their products are used, the Tessellated Tile Factory showroom in Sydney emulates the city’s iconic terrace houses. The interior architecture and design have been crafted by Tom Mark Henry, and feature gentle hues of green splashed across walls and joinery. Natural stone provides textural contrast within the scheme, while fresh interpretations of ornate skirtings, corbels and archways are used throughout.

Undulating interior architecture is complemented by textured wall finishes and contemporary lighting, while breakout spaces that feel more residential than commercial encourage clientele to sit back, relax and enjoy their tile selection journey. Clever use of mosaic tiles on plinths, recesses and walls establishes depth and visual layers, while touches of timber ensure the space feels warm. This combination of design elements creates a serene environment in which the beautiful tile range is presented to customers and specifiers alike.

Mix materials

Green marble benchtops are teamed with white mosaic tiles and tactile rendered walls in the Tessellated Tile Factory, a design approach that feels fresh, uncluttered and minimal – but never clinical. To establish the same sense of curated refinement in your own home, use a variety of hard surfaces in your design scheme, ensuring one acts as the hero feature and the others as complementary sidekicks.

Try colour drenching

While using different shades of one colour to decorate an entire space seems like a dramatic design choice, it can feel effortless and serene when executed correctly. The key is to opt for hues that are calming and reflect light; try barely-there shades of blue, green or grey.

Repeat shapes

Achieve visual consistency by repeating shapes across architecture, furniture and textiles. For example, the Tom Mark Henry design team arranged a round table on top of a round rug and surrounded it with round chairs – an effect that echoes the rounded doorways and recesses of the interior architecture.
