Danish brickmaking arrives in Australia with Matzen Tegl

Led by Peter Matzen, the eighth generation in a family that has worked with brick since 1750, Matzen Tegl carries a rare continuity of craft. Its story is one of inheritance, but not nostalgia. Across standard formats, Roman bricks and special solutions, the company works closely with architects and builders on projects where the brick is not simply a construction material, but a defining part of the design language.

For Australian specifiers, the appeal lies in the range’s subtle irregularity. These are bricks with movement and atmosphere. Their surfaces hold tone, texture and variation in a way that gives facades a more natural rhythm, allowing walls to feel less manufactured and more lived in from the outset.

The collection now listed on ArchiPro includes a considered palette of Matzen Tegl bricks and Roman Stone formats, from richly tonal reds and browns through to muted greys, yellows and darker architectural finishes. Each product offers a different way to work with mass, shadow and tactility, whether the intention is a highly crafted residential facade, a robust interior wall or a more expressive masonry detail.

Through Prolific Stone International, the range is supported by a supplier with deep experience in custom importing and material sourcing. For architects, designers and builders, this means access to an international brick range with the local guidance required to specify with confidence.

In an Australian design context increasingly drawn to permanence, texture and natural materiality, Matzen Tegl feels especially relevant. It offers brick not as background, but as atmosphere. A material with history in its making and contemporary relevance in its application.
