In 1973, five engineers in the commercial window industry pooled their considerable knowledge and formed Thermosash. Forty-plus years later and Thermosash has grown to be the largest commercial window and curtainwall designer, manufacturer and contracting company in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world in Germany, another family-owned business, Schüco, was also cementing its reputation as a world leader in systems solutions for windows, doors and façades.
These two companies now have an agreement making Thermosash Schüco’s exclusive New Zealand partner, says Thermosash Commercial’s Business Development Manager, Kent Nixon.
“This is a milestone for Schüco, who was looking for a single-source supplier to partner with in the New Zealand market.
“Founded in 1951, Schüco employs more than 5400 people in 80 countries, yet remains a family-owned business, which made Thermosash an attractive partner as there are many similarities between the two companies."
Thermosash are known specialists in specific design façade solutions for the commercial market, as well as high-end residential systems, with a focus on high performance and sustainability. Now, by partnering with Schüco, they are able to bring a new offering to the local market.
“Our focus with this partnership is to extend our high-end residential offerings, particularly around very high thermal performance and integrated automation. The suite of Schüco products incorporates German-designed passive house-compliant systems, large-format window panes and systems all potentially compatible with home automation solutions including tilt and turn and lift and slide,” says Kent.
“Thermosash sets a high bar for all of its products and all of the selected suites we will be sourcing will be analysed and engineered to suit New Zealand’s dynamic environment and comply with New Zealand standards. All products also come with a full range of documentation and specifications, which can be accessed through the Schüco website/New Zealand portal.
“All Thermosash products have been developed to the seismic conditions common in New Zealand. As such it was equally important that the Schüco offering meet those requirements.
“Beyond the ‘standard’ residential requirements, Schüco suites will extend Thermosash’s own range of intruder-resistant systems that include bullet-proof and bomb-proof solutions. They also have RFID and biometric-capable hardware for additional security, as well as ground-breaking technology in noise-cancelling sliding door systems.”
These systems sound like something you’d find in a Hollywood blockbuster, however, they have been manufactured so that, outwardly, they don’t appear to offer any greater resistance than a standard window system. However, the engineering and internal mechanics offer a substantial upgrade to the standard.
“For additional peace of mind, as with all suites and brands that Thermosash Group offers, they come with our reputation for being backed by local, in-house engineering, manufacturing and installation.
“Operating for 47 years, we have the ability to deliver increased value to your project through our expertise, experience and specific design solutions that offer long-term performance and durability,” says Kent.
