Bricks and mortar merge to carry out your passion project, and when you embark on this journey, choosing the right construction company is crucial.

With a passion for staff retention and commitment to quality, Havelock North Construction is a name that stands out from the bunch. Since 2001, owner Rob Liddle turned his thirty-five years of experience in the industry (including leading a team through renovating Winston Churchill’s family’s private residence whilst on a stint over in London) into a company that specialises in high-end homes and strives towards consistent quality workmanship at all times.

We talked to Rob Liddle about the workings of curating your dream home and why valuing your staff in the construction industry is so important.

The Design Process

Beginning the process with a company can sometimes seem intimidating, and rightly so, which is why working with the right team is so important. Keeping the values of collaboration at the forefront will create a smooth, stress-free design process and will mitigate any room for doubt.

“We work quite closely with the client before they go to an architect, guiding clients on materials to use if they have a specific budget or how to work with certain sites that may be on a hill or another more difficult piece of land,” says Rob.

“It's a really collaborative process from the first phone call - we pride ourselves on trying to be as helpful as possible.”

Havelock North Construction greets you with warmth and enthusiasm, working to understand your vision and budget and carry this out with care and precision. Rob and the team’s keen eye for detail will promise to bring your vision to life through specific material choices and by striving to step out of the box where possible.

“I always strive to be a little different - we’re doing one house at the moment, made of Macrocarpa and Oamaru stone. It’s beautiful. We really like using different materials like Tulipwood weatherboards or Purple Heart decking,” says Rob. “All my guys are young, strong, and always up for a challenge!”

Building a home with Havelock North Construction isn't just a transaction; it's a partnership. Their dedication to customer satisfaction doesn't end when the keys are handed over - standing behind their work, offering warranties and ongoing support to ensure that your home remains your dream home for years to come.

Located up high on Te Mata Peak, this home features vertical shiplap cedar and Celcrete cladding, working harmoniously with Hawke's Bay's golden landscape.

Prioritising Staff Retention

The construction industry is a culmination of skilled individuals and stands as a pillar for worldwide development. These factors alone speak volumes about why staff retention is essential for the company and the client, as well as the building process from beginning to end. Rob’s ethos for retaining staff represents the company's values and commitment to client satisfaction.

“We really prioritise looking after our staff and creating an enjoyable and fun environment, but in saying this, my guys are also never just standing around, and I think the dynamic really plays into the hard work,” explains Rob when talking about his team.

“All of my guys have done their apprenticeships with me, and they’ve stayed with Havelock North Construction. Acknowledging and rewarding hard work is essential and contributes heavily towards the quality of construction we provide.”

Staff retention is not only about keeping your employees, but protecting the integrity, efficiency and reputation of the company as a whole. Prioritising a positive work environment will nurture a culture of excellence, as well as build strong business-to-client relationships and work to maintain the top-tier quality that Havelock North Construction provides with every project.

Building your home is a journey and an important one at that. Havelock North Construction’s guidance and strong ethos promise a stress-free building process from start to finish, ensuring your dream home becomes a reality.
