The latest trends in contemporary interior door handles

It’s often the final touches that bring a design together. Whether it’s the furniture, curtains and blinds, artwork, pendant lights or interior door hardware.

“In 2013, Mardeco introduced JNF architectural hardware to the New Zealand market. Initially introducing a selection of designer lever handles, locks, door stops, hooks and flush pulls, it quickly established an innovative and exciting selection of products not seen in New Zealand before,” says Mark Rich, general manager at Mardeco.

“Local resellers were keen to offer their clients something quite different. With the introduction of PVD coating colours, the range selection increased dramatically, and there are now over 5,000 products available.”

Style and innovation have always been at the forefront for JNF, and the latest collections are no exception.

“With six full-time designers, JNF’s product expansion is impressive. The design department is multidisciplinary and combines elements from different specialties such as industrial, product, graphics, communication and marketing. It is a dynamic team that seeks to create innovative solutions clearly and appropriately, continually reaffirming the company’s identity and its positioning in the world market,” says Rich.

Inspired by the branches of trees and their equally organic and ergonomic shapes, the Wood Nature collection is available in three natural wood finishes: oak, bamboo and birch.

“​​JNF developed the Wood Nature collection to have the most minimal environmental impact possible, using recycled materials and woods with FSC certification, meaning the materials are sourced from responsibly managed forests and or recycled sources. These are finished in a water-based eco-friendly wood varnishing,” says Rich. 

Two shapes and sizes are available in this line – the door lever handle or the larger double door handle – providing options for how the range is used in projects, from sliding doors and pivot doors, to wardrobe and internal door handles.

With tortoise shell having made a return in fashion, it’s little surprise this has now spilled over into the world of interiors. 

Drawing inspiration from cellulose acetate eyewear with tortoise shell colourways, JNF’s Link Optic collection is available in two models. 

Similar to the translucent, light-capturing quality of your favourite pair of tortoise shell sunglasses, these door handles have a surprising finish that captures the light – highlighting colours and creating decorative contrasts. 

This simple lever handle is capable of standing out as a singular piece and is a source of inspiration that can influence the rest of an interior palette.

Another trend gaining popularity in contemporary interior door handles is the use of materials that are tactile in look and feel. From leather to concrete, these textures have been chosen by JNF for the way they add depth and visual interest to the space, and introduce a sensory experience.

Leather

Copper and brass
