Enviroclad Coloured Membrane System: Expanding Design Possibilities for Low-Slope Roofs

A Roof That Complements, Rather Than Competes

Traditionally, the focus of roofing has been on function rather than aesthetics. However, as contemporary architecture continues to embrace flat roof designs in both residential and commercial settings, the opportunity to enhance their visual appeal has grown. Not all flat roofs are hidden from view—many are visible from upper floors, surrounding properties or even used as living spaces. Viking Roofspec’s expanded colour range allows these surfaces to become a considered design element, complementing cladding choices and the wider environment rather than being an afterthought.

The collection features five exciting shades: Medium Bronze, Rock Brown, Slate Grey, Patina Green and Ironsand, alongside the standard Dove Grey and White. Each hue has been carefully selected to harmonise with natural materials, from timber and stone to brick and copper, offering a refined palette that enhances the built environment.

Medium Bronze is a versatile shade that pairs beautifully with timber and stone-clad exteriors, adding warmth while subtly blending into natural landscapes. This tone is particularly suited to cooler regions, where its heat-absorbing qualities contribute to energy efficiency.

Rock Brown, the lightest of the five earth tones, provides a soft, organic warmth that integrates seamlessly with brick, timber, and other warm-toned materials.

For those seeking a darker contrast, Slate Grey offers a deep, muted finish that minimises glare while complementing weatherboards, cedar, and metallic finishes like copper.

Patina Green is an ideal choice for homes and buildings surrounded by lush greenery, echoing the hues of forestry and bush environments.

Finally, Ironsand, a rich smoky brown with charcoal undertones, is inspired by New Zealand’s rugged West Coast, making it a sophisticated choice for coastal and bush settings alike.

To add further appeal to a membrane roof, matching coloured TPO weldable ribs can be welded to the membrane surface—they can be installed any distance apart and at any angle to provide extra design interest and dimension. This method can also be used to emulate the wide-seamed European steel tray look but without the potential corrosion that can take place with some metal roofs in salt spray zones.

A Subtle Yet Impactful Choice

Specifying a coloured membrane opens up new possibilities for design-led roofing. In addition to adding aesthetic value, these muted earth tones help properties blend more seamlessly into their environments, making them particularly well-suited for rural, bush and coastal settings. Reducing glare is another advantage—important for properties overlooking flat roofs, whether residential or commercial. In areas where council regulations limit light reflective values (LRVs), these colours offer a compliant yet stylish solution.

By expanding the design potential of flat roofs, Viking Roofspec’s Enviroclad Coloured Membrane System is redefining the role of roofing in architectural design. It’s a system that delivers on performance but with the added benefit of aesthetic versatility—proof that functionality and beauty can go hand in hand.
