“The B&B Italia collection came from the idea of extending the elegance and comfort of indoor living into the outdoors,” explains Lauren Docking, Sales Team Lead for B&B Italia Outdoor Sydney. “We wanted to capture that same sense of refined design, craftsmanship, and timeless style that B&B Italia is known for but translate it into pieces that thrive under the Australian sun, by the sea, or in a lush garden.”

The language of design

B&B Italia’s outdoor collection reads like an anthology of modern design masters with the collection featuring some of the most renowned collaborations, including Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola and Piero Lissoni.

“Citterio brings architectural precision and sophisticated comfort, Urquiola infuses expressive, tactile creativity, and Lissoni offers minimalist elegance,” says Lauren. “Together, they form a collection that’s cohesive yet beautifully diverse in character.”

Each designer’s contribution is distinct, yet they all share a devotion to proportion, texture, and a kind of understated glamour which sits effortlessly against nature’s backdrop.

Performance meets poetry

“What sets B&B Italia apart is every piece is engineered with the same level of detail as our indoor collections, from the ergonomics to the upholstery,” says Lauren

Indeed, innovation lies at the core of the collection, with B&B Italia’s engineers and artisans collaborating closely to ensure every element is as robust as it is refined; picture aluminium, stainless steel, solid teak, and high-tech fabrics coming together. 

“The external finishes are weather resistant, whilst the internal coverings are weather proof so the furniture maintains its look and structure season after season. The upholstery is fully removable and designed to dry quickly.”

Lauren adds, “Of course, we always encourage clients to follow our maintenance schedule as care is key to longevity.”

That word “longevity” recurs throughout our conversation for the collection: “We’re continuously innovating to use recyclable and responsibly sourced materials, reduce waste in production, and create furniture that lasts for decades, not seasons… longevity itself is a form of sustainability,” she says.

Designed for ultimate comfort

If durability speaks to the practical, comfort speaks to the emotional. “For me, true luxury lies in the way something feels as much as how it looks,” reflects Lauren. “Each design is sculpted for comfort…[the proportions, cushions and support] all refined through countless prototypes. B&B never sacrifices usability over form; the beauty of B&B Italia’s outdoor pieces is that they’re as inviting as they are iconic.”

Collections like Erica, Ribes, and Nooch exemplify this with their modular, flexible and livable designs: “Clients can configure seating layouts to suit any space from a small terrace to a large resort-style setting,” says Lauren. “We also offer a range of fabric and finish options, allowing for personalisation.”

Australia’s design narrative is evolving, and B&B Italia seems to be evolving with it. 

“We’re seeing a growing desire to create sophisticated, multifunctional outdoor areas that feel like true living spaces. This outdoor collection offers European design that complements the Australian climate, architecture, and way of life.”

Natural, earthy tones dominate the palette with soft neutrals, warm taupes, muted greens. “The idea is to create a calm, timeless environment that feels organic and elevated, but not overly styled.”

As for what’s next, Lauren hints at exciting developments. “B&B Italia continues to expand its outdoor offering with new collaborations, fresh materials and refined forms each year, while staying true to B&B’s heritage of Italian craftsmanship.”
