Tile trends and the move from minimalism

While minimalist elements such as sleek lines and open spaces remain popular in Australian design, there’s an increasing embrace of warmth, character, and depth. Colour and texture play a central role in this shift, with vibrant accent hues, feature walls, and colourful furniture blending with often neutral foundations.

The wide selection of tiles available from Perini Tiles opens up design possibilities when it comes to experimenting with these trends.

“Our in-house trends are consistent with what we’re seeing across the design community, and we’ll continue to meet customer needs by introducing relevant new product lines,” says Izaiah Perini.

Popular collections at Perini Tiles to embrace texture and colour

The Venetian collection

Available in deep, earthy hues, Venetian tiles have a matt finish with a textured surface, similar to that of Venetian render. Made from porcelain, it is an extremely versatile surface that can be used indoors and out, with easy maintenance and cleaning. From bathroom floors to fireplace surrounds, this tile is a stunning choice.

The Curve Marble collection

With a beautiful silhouette, these natural stone tiles have subtleties in tone and texture, each with organic veining. Three-dimensional in form, the tiles play with light and shadow – a stunning addition to the front of kitchen island benches and feature walls.

Curve Mini Marble Tiles in Ming pair with Pamir Light matt porcelain tiles in the Norsu Homes 2 project.

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, the Elliot Avenue project features Perini Tiles throughout, including Curve Mini Marble Tiles in Crema Trav in the laundry.

The Cinder collection

Made in Italy, the Cinder collection is a tribute to cotto bricks, a cornerstone of architecture for millennia. Each Cinder piece, measuring a sleek 60 x 240mm, has been crafted to meticulously capture the colour variations and textured surfaces that make cotto bricks distinctive. Suitable for interior and exterior applications, their porcelain construction brings superior strength, resilience and lasting beauty.

The Goza collection

Another natural stone option with various colourways and stunning design combinations, the Goza collection can be used for all interior wall and floor surfaces. Tumbled and honed, the stone comes in colours including green, pink, orange and brown.

The Pamir collection

Imitating the natural nuances and tonal variation of real stone, the Pamire Porcelain Tile is available in an array of stone colours and sizes. With rectified edges and constructed of glazed porcelain, zero sealing is required for this stone – bringing flexibility in use across any project.

Norsu Cabin was thoughtfully renovated with the bathroom transformation featuring Studio Menta Gloss paired with Port White Matte on the walls and Pamir Light tiles on the floors.

Pez Natural Stone Rosetta mosaic tiles from Perini Tiles were another beautiful addition to this project.

“Homeowners often used colour and texture to personalise their spaces with the Venetian, Goza, and Curve collections, while commercial spaces balance aesthetics with practicality, using Cinder and Pamir. Project types like renovations, new builds, hospitality, and retail each interpret these trends uniquely, bolstering their own unique personal expression, functionality, branding, and creating specific atmospheres,” says Izaiah.

New technology is paving the way

“New and popularised surface technology has been a welcomed innovation in the tile space. Tech Grip, and similar technologies, have revolutionised tile design. Allowing for smooth, matte finishes that also provide grip when wet. This innovative surface technology delivers a remarkably smooth feel while achieving a P5 slip rating, enabling seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces for a cohesive design,” shares Izaiah.

Tiles such as those from the Resort, Blue Tech, and Piceno collections from Perini Tiles bring these benefits to both residential and commercial projects.

Each featuring Tech Grip technology, the tiles each have the appearance of stone, without the maintenance.
