Collaboration and specification sit at the heart of design excellence. Caroma and Methven work alongside architects to unite vision and performance, ensuring every detail delivers on design integrity and sustainability.

Every decision contributes to the final experience of a space… They determine not just how a space looks and feels, but how it performs, endures and supports those who use it.

For over 80 years, Caroma – and for 135 years, Methven – have been part of that design conversation in countless projects. As trusted brands known for innovation, sustainability and design integrity, they have each built a legacy in supporting architects and designers in creating spaces that balance form and function. Their team understands that details matter.

“My role sits at the intersection of design intent, technical performance and sustainability,” says Abigail Curran, Architectural Specifications Representative for Caroma and Methven. “Every project has unique challenges and aspirations, and our job is to support architects and designers in realising their vision while ensuring product selections meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.”

From vision to specification

Every project begins with collaboration, whether it’s a boutique residential development, a commercial fit-out, an accessible bathroom or a large-scale public facility.

“We begin by understanding the project’s overall design direction. From there, I provide tailored product recommendations that align with the design narrative and technical demands of the project.”

The process typically involves reviewing spatial layout for efficiency, assessing water conservation targets and ensuring alignment with key standards such as Green Star and WELLs.

Once the performance criteria and aesthetic direction have been established, Abigail builds tailored product recommendations, including everything from advanced water management technology to shower heads and tapware.

For a new apartment complex in Auckland, Caroma worked with the architects to create refined, sustainable bathrooms that balanced luxury with longevity. Layouts were refined and products were specified to meet water conservation targets and compliance guidelines.

“We specified a suite of Caroma Smart Command fixtures and Methven award-winning shower systems. Integrating advanced water management technology helped the design team achieve their sustainability benchmarks without compromising aesthetics,” says Abigail. “Our technical team also provided BIM files, detailed specifications and installation guidance, ensuring a smooth process from concept through to completion.”

This collaborative approach showcases Caroma’s commitment to developing inspiring and innovative products for all needs, using their knowledge and expertise to ensure every detail enhances the way we all live.
