When a Hong Kong-based New Zealand architect wanted to build an architectural home in Punakaiki, the rustic miner’s huts in the area were the perfect inspiration.
A metal structure was created on the interior, forming a clever mezzanine space.
The triangular skylight offers views to the the cliff face above.

In the interior, blonded pine wall lining creates a warm and light palette.
The en suite bathroom features moody tones, for a recessive look.
The entry to the home forms a sheltered structure out of the weather.
The skylights create a beautiful connection with the weather, anchoring visitors with a sense of place.
Extensive glazing in the bedroom connects visitors directly with the bush setting.
The stunning Punakaiki setting offers bush views in every direction.
