Material matters: Tiles to specify with confidence and design with intent

The way light interacts with a surface, casting shadows and accentuating texture. The way a material feels underfoot… These details shape more than how a space looks, they create the experience.

Materiality is central in creating spatial identity, bringing supplier and specifier relationships to the forefront of projects that demand an equal consideration of both aesthetic and atmosphere. For architects and designers working across high-end residential and commercial spaces, Perini Tiles has established itself as one of these key collaborators. But they’re more than a tile supplier, they’re a partner with design expertise, technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the way each design choice comes together.

At the heart of Perini’s approach is the idea that every tile must serve a purpose.

“Material quality, craftsmanship and innovation are non-negotiable,” says Izaiah Perini. “Every tile must offer something meaningful.”

And in projects where thousands of tiles can be used, maintaining that level of intention requires clarity. “Our intentional curation ensures that architects and designers are working within a cohesive, considered palette.”

Curated collections for design success

Tiles have long played a practical role in spaces, but for Perini, the goal is to take that a step further: to provide products that will truly elevate their clients’ projects.

High performing materials are part of the brand’s repertoire, in formats that offer something distinct, whether that be through texture, colour or technical advantage. The needs of homeowners and the design community are also answered, ensuring the range supports everything from feature moments to full home solutions, outdoor spaces and pools.

“Above all, we select with intention. Every tile must add clarity, not noise, keeping our collections cohesive, relevant and aligned with the evolving needs of a design-led audience.”

Designing for what’s next

Curves, organic movement and tiles made from natural, expressive materials are being selected for spaces designed to make us feel good.

“Designers are leaning into bold, earthy colours like deep reds, warm oranges and rich neutrals, paired with textures that mimic hand-crafted surfaces or natural stone,” says Izaiah.

There’s also growing interest in tactile surfaces: soft mattes, subtle undulations and surfaces that feel grounded and authentic.

“Architects and designers are using tiles far more creatively, treating them as architectural elements rather than just surface finishes. We’re seeing tiles used to build texture-rich feature moments, wrap continuous surfaces and create sculptural forms that play with light, shadow and curves.”

In Hommey’s flagship Armadale store, there’s a warmth and sense of comfort that just feels right. There are curved walls, moments to pause and tiled walls that feel ‘Hommey’ in every way. Perini Tiles’ Bolzano Terracotta Light Subway pairs with Ember Terracotta Subway in an alternating pattern, and the Hanoi Rustic Subway brings warmth and depth.

Wellbeing Elements on Phillip Island offers another example where Perini’s products have been used to help create a space that immerses visitors in a sense of relaxation. Organic, aqua-toned tiles meet timber surfaces, curving and following the shape of each space.

A process created for architects and designers

For projects such as this, Perini Tiles often works closely with design teams from concept development through to final specification, providing samples, technical guidance and product clarity, making the process smoother and more efficient from the very beginning.

“Our team is hands-on and responsive, whether that’s helping refine a palette, advising on suitability for different applications, or coordinating sample deliveries quickly so decisions can keep moving. Our goal is to make specification feel seamless, supported and creatively inspiring,” says Izaiah. “We clarify the brief, then help identify suitable tiles, offer alternatives and guide designers toward options that match their style and project requirements. Designers can meet with us for in-store consultations, and we organise samples quickly so they can review colours and textures in their own space.”

When faced with challenges around lead times, confirming technical suitability and ensuring selections meet both aesthetic and practical requirements across different areas of a project, Perini’s team can provide clear, fast guidance from the first enquiry.

More than a tile supplier, Perini Tiles support the design outcome, ensuring the final result reflects the level of detail and intention expected in premium residential and commercial work.
