Elevate your bathroom redesign with these five luxurious ideas

Renovating the bathroom doesn't have to involve a complete overhaul.

Simple yet strategic upgrades in finishes and accessories can often transform a space into a luxurious and functional retreat at a fraction of the cost of a new bathroom design.

ArchiPro explores five deluxe bathroom ideas for your next design or renovation with Doné Hanekom, Brand Manager at Bathroom Butler.

For four decades, this second-generation family business has ensured all its products are carefully considered, tested, and designed with a purpose.

1. Install a heated towel rail

At the forefront of this list is adding a heated towel rail for increasing style, comfort and functionality. Imagine stepping out of the shower at the end of a long day to be embraced by a dry and cosy towel. “While heated towel rails are naturally a sought-after bathroom addition in cooler climates abroad, this upgrade is also beneficial in damp or humid climates, where towels struggle to dry,” explains Doné Hanekom.

“Often heated towel rails tend to be an after-thought in hot climates or switched off in summer as the surface temperature of the rail gets too hot,” says Hanekom. “The difference with Bathroom Butler's heated towel rails is the ability to adjust the temperature of the heated towel rail; by turning the temperature down, you can dry your towels during hot, humid summer days and even dry your beach towels after swimming.”

According to Hanekom, most heated towel rails on the market do not have temperature adjustment capabilities. “All Bathroom Butler’s heated towel rails are designed with a built-in temperature adjustment switch, called the PTSelect switch, allowing users to customise the temperature of the rail according to personal preference and the season,” she says.

A common misconception about heated towel rails is the associated energy costs. Bathroom Butler's heated towel rails' electrical wattage is comparable to that of a standard incandescent light bulb, aligning design and functionality with the all-important energy efficiency.

2. Style with longevity in mind

One of the most important factors to note when it comes to bathroom accessories is that luxurious bathroom accessories will always be high quality. When selecting new bathroom accessories, such as towel rails (or toilet paper holders), Hanekom says to consider materials suitable to your design and local climate to ensure longevity.

“We recommend Grade 304 stainless steel, which is ideal for damp and humid environments, as it will not rust, peel or flake and is recyclable. This quality grade stainless steel is the only material we use for our heated towel rails and bathroom accessories,” says Hanekom.

Upgrading to high-quality/grade stainless steel accessories and bathroom ware ensures durability and resistance to rust and tarnish, making it a wise long-term investment for the bathroom.

3. Add statement lights and mirrors

Lighting plays a crucial role in high-end bathroom design. Light-up mirrors add a touch of luxury and provide practical benefits by illuminating space for tasks like shaving and makeup application. Additionally, incorporating mirror storage helps keep the bathroom organised. Hidden shelves and cabinets behind mirrors offer convenient storage for medicines and toiletries without compromising style.

While discussing bathroom upgrades, Hanekom notes that people appreciate bathroom accessories that blend functionality and style. “Lighting and stylish storage can provide that ‘wow’ factor to a bathroom, giving it a desirable and high-end feel from the moment one enters.”

5. Declutter with smart storage solutions

A clutter-free bathroom not only feels more serene but also functions more efficiently. Hanekom recommends installing wall-mounted toilet roll holders, glass shelves, towel rails, or shower racks to keep everyday essentials organised and within reach.

“Often, bathrooms become cluttered due to a lack of quality storage solutions. Decluttering the bathroom improves aesthetics and makes cleaning a breeze,” says Hanekom.

“A simple glass shelf is ideal for perfume bottles and candles, organising everything around your basin area. A shower rack, soap rack, and all-important spare toilet roll holder will make a world of difference and will be appreciated by guests,” suggests Hanekom.

“The most common problem experienced in bathrooms is that accessories become loose or wobbly. That is why all our bathroom accessories are installed using our patented mounting, called the RIGID Loc. When installed correctly, they will never become wobbly or fall off the wall,” Hanekom adds.

From the luxurious warmth of a heated towel rail to a modern palette, statement lighting and smart storage solutions, investing in these bathroom ideas and accessories can enhance the beauty and functionality of your bathroom design.
