Building dream houses with bespoke timber joinery

Crafting functionality and beauty

When asked about the impact of bespoke timber joinery on a new build, Brittin emphasised the importance of creating a space that is not just visually appealing but also functionally efficient. The bespoke solutions offered by the Parkhill Joinery team ensure that finishes are not only beautiful but also tailored to the specific needs of the occupants. This approach allows for a seamless blend of functional and aesthetic elements, enhancing the overall living experience.

The Parkhill team highlight the thoughtful design process involved in creating bespoke joinery. For example, in their own kitchen, the team considered the dynamics of their large family and designed the space accordingly. “From the width between ovens to the kitchen layout, every detail was meticulously planned to cater to our larger family's unique needs,” says Brittin.

Parkhill Joinery's specialisation in heritage-restoration work and its ability to create unique elements, such as heritage mouldings and skirtings, make it a sought-after choice for those who require and appreciate such historical craftsmanship. The team's expertise extends beyond standard joinery, including stairs, spindles, and even the ability to run scootings with unique mouldings. This level of specialisation allows clients to turn to Parkhill Joinery for quality and the execution of intricate and specific design elements.

Dream House

Located in picturesque Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Dream House exemplifies the transformative power of bespoke timber joinery on a new build. The project was a collaboration between Brittin Builders and Parkhill Joinery.

“The clients' vision was to create a modern yet traditional home, with timber being the hero of the design. The extensive use of reclaimed timber, including jarra and oak flooring sourced from a dismantled Napier Hospital, contributed to the warm and inviting feel of the house,” says Brittin.

The design showcases a plethora of wood types used in various elements within the home, including Jarra, Cedar, Oak and Oregon. These materials were carefully selected and treated with staining and oiling to achieve the desired aesthetic. The result is a home that not only meets the functional needs of a growing family but also exudes a timeless charm reminiscent of a farmhouse that has stood the test of time.

Benefits of bespoke timber joinery

Parkhill Joinery touches upon the numerous benefits of using bespoke timber joinery. Apart from the aesthetic appeal, timber's natural characteristics make it a durable and sustainable choice.

“Timber's ability to absorb noise contributes to a quieter and more comfortable living environment. Additionally, the material's resilience allows it to withstand environmental changes, ensuring longevity and stability in various conditions," says Brittin.

Parkhill Joinery makes the engagement process straightforward for those inspired by Dream House or interested in incorporating bespoke timber joinery into their own homes. Interested owners and specifiers can reach out through the contact page on their website or via phone. The team encourages clients to bring in ideas or existing plans to initiate a conversation about their unique requirements.

Upon understanding the client's vision, Parkhill Joinery provides a detailed quote, including 3D images, to visualise the proposed designs. Once accepted, the project moves into production, with the team keeping clients informed about the timeline. The final step involves fitting the bespoke joinery, either by Parkhill Joinery or the client's builder.

Bespoke timber joinery can elevate a space from ordinary to extraordinary. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the craftsmanship and specialisation offered by Parkhill Joinery ensure that every piece of joinery is not just a functional element but a work of art. Dream House shows how the timeless beauty and functionality that bespoke timber joinery can bring to a new build or renovation makes it a worthwhile investment for those seeking a unique and personalised living experience.
