With a captivating interplay of light, shadows and textures, Singlefin home is nestled alongside the white sands of Bokarina on the Sunshine Coast.
A showcase of coastal living at its finest, the residence makes the most of its northern orientation – embracing both privacy and abundant natural light, enhancing the comfort of each space.
Brought to life by Gold Leaf Constructions, it’s a project with a minimal colour palette that captivates with its form.
“Gold Leaf’s mission today is to build homes that stand the test of time,” says Kyle Grabbe, director of Gold Leaf Constructions. “When I see a building, I don’t just look at it visually as what it is, I pull it apart in my head as it’s constructed.”
On a small block, the home makes an immediate impact.
Dramatic and captivating, the facade’s curved screen adds intrigue and sets the scene for what lies beyond.
“The materials and methods used to construct this gorgeous beachside home have been carefully selected to stand the test of time in a holiday house with very close proximity to the ocean,” says Grabbe.
Reminiscent of the nearby sands, textural bricks pair with Knotwood battens. The concealed entry gate gives way to an unexpected expanse, seamlessly connecting view lines from front to rear – ensuring an open and illuminated living area.
“We are very happy with the outcome achieved on this 313sqm block with 12.5m frontage. With the beach and park on your doorstep, you don’t really need a large block though you do need to make every square metre count. This home is a study on small block design; Reitsma & Associates really nailed the brief on this one.”
With a resort-worthy swimming pool at the front of the property, the homeowners and guests can lounge poolside, entertain at the alfresco dining area, or step inside the full-height sliding glass doors to the light-filled lounge area.
Echoing the palette of the exterior, the interior evokes a sense of relaxation. Floor-to-ceiling glazing on both sides welcomes the sea breeze and natural light while the kitchen island mimics the home’s facade with curved edges and timber battens.
The handcrafted oak staircase leads to the living area which incorporates the double-height void, bringing a sense of expanse – like that experienced from the home’s frontage.
“I think architecture is art in its own form. It’s creating an emotion and by emphasising the art side of it, it creates more of a wow factor. We don’t want to be doing a typical build; we want someone to walk past and think ‘wow’,” says Grabbe.
Moving into the private areas of the residence, the master bedroom offers an impressive view extending over the double-height outdoor living void, towards the pool and to the northern horizon.
Completed in 2023, Gold Leaf Constructions completed this beach house three months ahead of schedule – a testament to the operations of Gold Leaf Constructions and the ongoing relationships built over time. Grabbe’s constant communication with the designers and his exceptional planning allowed his team to overcome any challenges ahead of schedule, resulting in no hold-ups during the build.
“A problem I see today is that people aren’t getting builders in early enough in the design stage. The designs have evolved too far before they’ve engaged with the builder which leads to unrealistic expectations, budgets being completely blown out, and in some cases, designs not even being built,” says Grabbe.
“We want to work with people or families that are willing to push the boundaries in construction. We’re not just after another number, we’re not a volume builder – we want to keep control of quality outcomes.
“Quality isn’t just a visual aspect; it transpires through the whole business as well, like maintaining good relationships with clients and subcontractors and making sure it’s a positive experience through the whole journey. We want to partner up with the right client right from the beginning so we can actually deliver their dream home.”
With its relaxed yet refined design, a soothing beach-inspired palette with warm tones and natural ambience, this beachside retreat is the perfect holiday home for the young family to gather, grow and enjoy.
