A visually striking roofing and cladding solution for coastal homes

In addition to weather resistance, cladding also influences the thermal conditions of your home, with the right materials working to heat and cool your home using passive house principles. Those with coastal properties not only have to consider weather resistance to heat, wind, and rain but also the salt from seawater. The salty air present in coastal areas can cause materials such as untreated timber and low-grade steel to rust and corrode, requiring costly renovations to rectify. Uniting design flexibility and high-end aesthetics with unparalleled weather and salt resistance, MagnaFlow by UniCote represents the ideal cladding and roofing solution for coastal homes.

Steel roofs are typically most susceptible to the elements along cut edges, however, MagnaFlow innovatively does away with this Achilles' heel. The addition of magnesium takes the already heavy-duty zinc and aluminium allow-coated steel substrate to the next level, enabling the protective alloy to ‘flow’ over the cut edge, triggering a sacrificial anticorrosive reaction and thereby creating a robust seal. This provides long-term protection and prevents premature

Engineered with the harshest coastal locations in mind, MagnaFlow has been tested under New Zealand’s most demanding environmental conditions and is well-suited to the Australian coastal landscape, effortlessly meeting salt spray, humidity, heat, and QUV resistance requirements. While many conventional steel cladding options are only suitable for inland coastal conditions, MagnaFlow is able to withstand severe and very severe marine conditions, allowing it to be used as roofing and cladding for off-shore properties that sit close to the water. In light of this, UniCote is able to provide warranties for MagnaFlow on properties 0-400m from marine influence.

The go-to solution for luxurious residential and commercial coastal properties, MagnaFlow was selected for use in the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, situated less than 100m from Ross Creek. MagnaFlow is also featured on the Mercedes Benz Brisbane location and the redeveloped Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. Both properties sit on the waterfront, with the latter in particular being exposed to high levels of salt.

Despite its purpose-built nature, MagnaFlow doesn’t skimp on aesthetic options. Like the rest of the UniCote steel range, MagnaFlow is available in various profiles, including standing seam, snap lock, interlocking, nailstrip, and shingle, meaning there’s an option for every application. A vast array of colour options, from classic yet bold hues of Heritage Red and Caulfied Green to contemporary shades of Monolith, Off-White, Armour Grey, and Gull Grey, ensures MagnaFlow can be seamlessly integrated into any architectural aesthetic. For those who wish to lean into the coastal look, the UniCote Hamptons Range of colours (featuring the purest white on the market – Hamptons White) is also available in MagnaFlow.

The owners of Wye Residence specifically selected MagnaFlow for its ability to unite versatile aesthetics with protection from the elements. Built following destructive bushfires that swept through Victoria’s Wye River in 2015, Wye Residence was constructed to replace a beloved coastal getaway that had sadly been reduced to ashes. Taking into account both the bushfire-prone area and the close proximity to the sea, MagnaFlow was selected to ensure environmental protection without sacrificing a sleek, streamlined appearance.

With its arresting geometric nature and ability to weather the harshest conditions – whether they be fire or corrosion – using MagnaFlow ensures Wye Residence will truly stand the test of time.
